How do you segment users by custom property?

We created some custom properties - for example a users company so that we could more effectively segment them. I am looking in the segment properties and it’s not there. What am I doing wrong?Thanks

Can you create events based on only part of a URL?

Here is my problem: User A navigates to some URL that says website.com/custom/12234 User B navigates to some other URL that says website.com/custom/13324The content within both URLs is the same (or not significantly different enough to track), however, they are custom dashboards that are configured at the user level. What I want to do is basically track how many page views are at website.com/custom/ in order to get a total usage of custom pages. As of now, I can only see how many people are using their specific custom page. Is this possible?  Let me add, I realize this can be done via a Usage Over Time Chart -- You can add a Pageview with a filter where the Path contains ‘website.com/custom/’ and it’ll work. Thanks!

Trying to create segment based on IP Address

I am trying to create a segment of internal users based on IP address to exclude from reports, since the site I’m analyzing has low traffic currently and internal traffic contributes a large portion of it. We don’t have identification set up, all the users are anonymous.  When I defined a segment based on my own IP, it showed the size of the segment at 40 users.  This has me concerned that activity across sessions isn’t merging onto a single user profile for other users.  Any ideas what might be causing this or any suggestions to correct?

Getting Internal Server Error when creating custom property using Regex

Hi,I am trying to extract a GUID from the Path using Regex. Custom defined properties are inconsistent

Hi,I am using client-side addUserProperties API to add custom properties for users. However it is inconsistent. I only see for my user. Check below screenshot. Is there any discrepancy?  But I don’t see for other user. Screenshot below Also, how can I use those properties in charts for additional analysis. Thanks,Ronak

Unable to find user Properties in my users and sessions

Hi I am a new Heap user. I have been trying to create a new User properties .In my signup page I am trying to add email of the user that has signed up in my page as a parameter.But it’s not having any effect, as I am unable to see it anywhere.Here is my code window.heap.addUserProperties({'email' : finalobj.email});where finalobj is an object which contains login details.Has anyone else ever run into this issue?Thank you so much,

Snapshot on Custom Events

Hi, I’m trying to add snapshot properties to be able to use them on Chameleon through the Heap Integration, but the events definitions page has the add snapshot option greyed out even for admin users. Any ideas? thanks!

How do page view events get identified?

Hello there,It seems that there are duplicate page view events and definitions firing as we navigate to different pages within our site.To get to the root cause of the duplicate page view events, we'd like to learn more about how page view events are identified on Heap.For example, are page view events detected via a URL change or when a load event (or any other event) is fired on the window?We'd like more detail on how these page view events are triggered and what goes on in the background to have them identified within Heap.Thank you.

Prepend Event Category to Data Warehouse Sync

Hello fellow Heapsters,Hopefully your morning cup of espresso was zesty yet smooth.I am looking into events and event categories in an attempt to organize our data in Snowflake. I was pleasantly surprised to see that event categories are prepended to events when synced. However, this does not happen for all events. Is there a reason why some events in my warehouse have the category prepended and some do not? Ideally 100% would have the category prepended.Thanks in advance,Chase

Is it possible to capture as a property the final part of the path?

I defined a click event, on my page there are 5 reports, each uses the same button and an href to take the user to that report. Each href follows the same path other outside of the last part, for example:www.test.com/user/1/report/profile www.test.com/user/1/report/historyIs it possible to just capture profile or history in the example above as a property?

How to capture the click of all elements in a dropdown button

I defined an event to capture if the user is clicking a dropdown button using:Click On span.dropdown_buttonHowever, within the dropdown button itself there are more elements like icon and text, when the user clicks on those elements it doesn’t trigger the event I defined but a separate event. How can I change it such that the clicking of anywhere in the dropdown will record the event I defined? I’m also trying to define a property to capture the text value in the header whenever this is clicked. I used to value of javascript, and copied the JSpath from the Inspect Element but it’s still returning nothing.document.querySelector("#main-content > main > div.main-content__inner > header > section > h1") Thank you!

Snapshot of subdomain on first page visit

We use multiple sub-domains to identify traffic coming in for different third parties we hold a relationship with.  So end users will access the site via a link that looks something like:https://third-party-x.ourdomain.comorhttps://third-party-y.ourdomain.comI want to filter events according to which third party it is.  Later events include [third-party=third-party-x] in the event property hierarchy.  So I have two questions if anyone can help:How do I filter the initial events (e.g. get a count of how many users land by third party) How do I access the third party name in the hierarchy (I’ve read all the tutorials on snapshotting and can’t find the right form).Any help gratefully received.  Thanks!

Tracking SELECT indexes

I’m using a basic SELECT element, and tracking it’s onChange events with a Snapshot.  However, I never get the index returned, just a -1.The Heap docs provide this valuable tidbit of info… (and suspect this is the culprit).var selector = 'li.h-full' // Replace this CSS! Defining Multiple CTAs

Hey, how are you? I’m trying to use Visual Labelling on my site https://buildbuddy.co/. I have a CTA button on multiple pages, each with different styling and wording but linking to the same page. I want all clicks on those button to be defined as the same event. I’ve tried adding the same class to all the buttons but it doesn’t seem to work. Even the buttons with the same text doesn’t seem to work. Could it be because I am using WordPress > Elementor, and it adds a whole bunch of different unique classes and IDs to each button?

Hi,New user here. What is the best way to create a segment of first-time users?I was thinking of doing: “Users who have done a count of -- Pageviews -- less than -- 1 -- at any time.”Would that work?Thank you!

Feature Request: Support Nested Combo Events

We find Combo Events very useful in managing our heap instance.  For example, we have one Heap Event called “HVA” (High Value Action) that is a combo event of all the high value actions we track that users do in our product.  It makes subsequent reporting and segment definition so much simpler.However, many times we have other combo events we want to define that are SUPERSETS of another combo events. For example:ComboEventA:- Event1, OR- Event2​, OR- Event3Assume now I have EventB (another Combo event) that is EventA plus 2 other events. Logically the definition is:ComboEventB:- ComboEventA, OR- Event4​, OR- Event5 Currently, Heap does not allow nested combo events.   This forces us to define ComboEventB as this:ComboEventB:- Event1, OR- Event2​, OR- Event3, OR- Event4, OR- Event5This is really bad because now I have to maintain definition of ComboEventA in 2 places.  Even worse if there are multiple instances of definitions like this.In my proposal where combo events are nestable, the

Feature Request: Reporting being able to sum events

We have cases were we want to have report that is the SUM of the counts of multiple events.e.g. Event A, Event B and Event C. We want a single line chart that shows the SUM(EventA, EventB, EventC) as one series in the chart. Today, you cannot do this. You can:Plot them as individual data series (not what we want) Create another event that combines them then build a report on this event#2 will technically work, but is wasteful because it is defining another event for a single purpose of one report.

Is it possible to make events inherit a user property ?

Hi,We’re trying Heap on our app and wanted to compare usage on different version.For the moment, we are using addUserProperties to get the product version in heap but the problem is that if we upgrade version for a user, all the previous related events would no longer be associated to the previous version and we won’t be able to compare usage with the newest one.To avoid this problem, I tried to create an event property wich take the version value from the user property but Heap don’t allow it.I was wondering if what I try to do is possible if we continue using only autocapture ?Thanks for your help.

Best practice: Add a "version" property to your events tied to a publish or app version

One best practice that we’ve adopted at our company is an “App Version” event property tied to new releases of our web app.As our use of heap has evolved over the last 12 months, we’ve found ourselves in common situations where event definitions have evolved.  An event defined one way now needs to be defined a new way. In order to keep continuity of historical data, you can then change the event definition based on app version.  For example, imagine your URLs changed in your webapp, where a path changed from /bar to /foo.  If you have an app version property, you can do something like this really easily which will ensure you have all historical data for the old definition as well as moving forward:The nice thing is that Heap can handle semantic versioning, so it knows that 1.5 is greater than 1.4. However, one thing to note is that Heap’s inability to do a “greater than or equal to” clause makes this a little tricky depending on your versioning scheme.  This is why I’ve separately post

Event Visualizer Unable to Find Heap

Hello,I’ve installed heap tracking on our website and everything seems to be working apart from the event visualizer. I can see that heap is sending click and page load events correctly, and heap object does exist when called from the console. Has anyone else encountered this issue before?

Transferring properties from Event to User

We have several event properties that are being passed through to Heap but some of them are specific to the users related to that event and we’d like to use them to segment our users. Is there a way to correctly assign these properties to the user instead of the event?

Can I implement Heap in a Chrome Extension?

Using Personal Defined Event Properties in Charts

I have recently created a new Formula/Regex based property that I plan to use to aggregate how often certain common page components are clicked over time. When I try to use this new property when creating a chart, I am able to select the property from the appropriate event, but the chart reports always show no values, as if the property value is not available to the chart I am trying to build.I verified the property value is being populated correctly as the correct values are shown in the Live data feed as I generate events from the application. My custom property appears in the “Other Properties” section of the window.Is there a limitation somewhere that does not allow me to use the value generated in personal properties for use in a chart? Thanks in advance.
