Worksheet - Segmenting Your Users

We’ve been building a whole new series of templates for using data to make decisions! As you all know, there’s lots of high-level guidance for being data-driven, most of it not actionable. We’re working on making actionable, useful templates and guides for teams who want to bring data into their decision-making.

Use the framework worksheet attached below to identify your

key user groups and track their behavior.

You’ve provided great feedback on our first Product Management template series, with our problem brief, design brief, and after-action report. You can download the full report here. We’re adding new assets everyday

Feel free to visit, download, and share: https://heap.io/how-to-hub

We’re always open to your ideas. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Hello @Ben Lempert & Heap community! Do I understand correctly that only user segments can be defined in Heap, not account-level segments? Or maybe I just haven’t found it how to configure it yet (we’re still going through our onboarding process). We’re a B2B SaaS so company-level segments seem more relevant to us.

@Milenka you can bring in segments relating to your customers with either our - AddAccount properties api, addUserpropertiesapi or our direct integration with Salesforce!

This will allow you to slice and dice your analysis based on interesting and relevant metadata, allowing you to go far beyond “level one” questions and really digging into who is doing what, where do they get stuck and how do we optimise for different types of users?

The key here is that the information relating to your accounts and your users exists somewhere - either in your database or in your CRM - if company segment exists then it can be brought into Heap via one of the three ways above!

At Heap we send in a ton of properties relating to our accounts such as vertical, subscription tier and many more! This is an extremely standard set up for B2B SaaS, please raise this with your implementation team if you haven’t already.

Please see the documentation relating to our APIs here!
