Currently, it is not possible to create a segment based on an event that you want to also filter. This forces us to create a lot of extra events which can bloat our events if these new events are only used for a segment for say a short period of time. E.g. Imagine if I wanted to create a segment for users that have visited a page 5 or more times. This is what you see: notice there is no way to filter that event to restrict it to a path. So instead, I have to first create an event that filters that Pageview event based on path, then use that new event in the segment definition. It would be far simpler to just allow segments to apply event filters then let us determine whether we want to make that a a unique event or not.
I’m coming across weird behavior in Heap related to UTM parameters and trying to understand what’s going on. My understanding is this:“Initial UTM Source” is the UTM source of the user’s very first session (ever) with us. “UTM Source” is the latest UTM Source of their latest session with usThis is also reaffirmed by Heap’s own definitions in the product: So all good so far :) However, I did some testing in the Live Analytics View, and having confusing behavior. I go to our company’s homepage with `https://www.sketchy.com/?utm_source=instagram” and it reported it as I expected: However, I then decided to do a check with hitting it with `https://www.sketchy.com/?utm_source=linkedin” and getting unexpected results. Notice in this screenshot it shows the expected Querystring, but the UTM source is still stating “instagram”: So this is leading me to believe either there is a bug, or this property panel has incorrectly worded the property as “UTM Source” when it should be “Initial UTM Sour
Hi,In the visual labeling I can’t figure out how to see all the defined events that are being captured for a specific interaction. For example in the image you can see that in some cases I have 2/3 events that are defined for my action but only one is displayed.I tried hovering / clicking etc without success.
Is there a Heap Snippet on Salesforce Cloud/Community to track what Knowledge Articles are being Viewed?
I’m brand new to Heap. I’ve started with Heap University, and digging into Events, Snapshots, etc … I am focused on our Knowledge Articles on our Salesforce Self-Service portal. I want to be able to see the View Counts for all of the Knowledge Articles on the Self-Service Portal. Eventually, I want to understand the journeys that our customer are taking to get to the Knowledge Articles and where they go from there. I came across a similar thread that asks ...”Has anyone added the Heap snippet to a Zendesk Help Center to track what articles are being viewed?”--- With this in mind, is there a similar Heap Snippet for Salesforce Service Cloud/Community that would give me the View Count of each Knowledge Article on there?
Need to correct my Email Address. We just implemented Heap. My organization (Company A) was acquired by another organization (Company B). When I was originally setup with a Heap Profile, it was setup with Company A’s email domain. This past week, I was migrated over to Company B’s email domain. How can I update my Heap Profile with my new Email Address, which uses Company B’s email domain?
Just an FYI! You might notice that for some devices on iOS 15, Apple masks the end user’s IP address and sends Apple’s IP address to Heap instead. This is due to iCloud Private Relay, which is part of iOS Privacy updates for iOS 15 (Apple's announcement). iCloud Private Relay is currently available to users with an iCloud+ subscription and devices on iOS 15. You can read the iCloud Private Relay Overview on Apple’s website for more details. Heap stores the IP address that we are given. Devices that have earlier operating systems (< iOS 15) will still send Heap the user’s IP. I hope that helps, please comment if you have any questions!
Hi. I am exploring Heap as an alternative to Google Analytics as their new platform is awful! I have an urgent use case in which I need to track visits to our home page by referring company. All the initial referral visits have a query parameter like this:<website.com?referral=CompaniesCode>I would love a dashboard where I can see visits per day by company code. We will then want to evolve this to track user journeys based on where they originated from. I couldn’t find any direct help articles so hoping I can get some references and quick start information to help us out here.
I am using the free version of Heap with react native. I want to implement snapshot properties, but when I go to click on it, I am unable to click on it (it is greyed out and shows a forbidden symbol when you run your cursor over it). Does anyone know why I am having this problem? I am an admin role.
Hello All,I found a similar question that got me ¾ of the way to my solution (https://community.heap.io/using-the-product-46/export-text-inputs-185?postid=371#post371)I am trying to figure out how to write a query to answer this question: How many times over the past 30 days has a visitor who enter their email address (captured by snapshot) also clicked the Apply Now Button grouped by email address. Is this the way to write that query? Thank you

When you use heap a lot, you end up creating a ton of definitions. Many times it’s because of the limitations in how segments can be defined which need events created vs filtering within the segment definition...I have a separate feature request just listed here: One consequence of this, is that in User Session explorer, we end up seeing SO MANY EVENTS LISTED for user sessions, it’s distracting. Here is a trivial example:Imagine we have these events defined because they are used in certain reports or segment definitions:Any click of Add to Cart in Men’s category Any click of Add to Cart on a T-Shirt Product Details Page Any Click of Add to Cart on any pageThen imagine in a user session, they click “add to cart” on a men’s tshirt. The user session explorer will show all 3 of these events which is confusing for most people and noisy. Instead, I wish in session explorer, there was a way to specify which events should be hidden by default for the organization. In the above case, I would
Hello All!I am wondering if there is a way to exclude a session based on an event.BackgroundMy company uses impersonation to enter customer accounts. Our emails are not associated with this action, it is as if we are the customer. However, after reviewing hundreds of User Session, I isolated the two distinct paths impersonating users take and created a segment based on a sequence of events that occur in 10 seconds. But that is where I get stuck.Questions I am trying to answerHow many user sessions did not include this user segment? How many users had a session this month, but the sessions did not include this particular sequence? What I am trying to avoidRemoving the segment completely from the session/user counts, because some sessions could actually be my customer.
Trusting your data is critical. Customers tell us time and time again that they wish they had established a better data governance strategy from Day 1 and then maintained that organization over time. Regardless of how far along you are in your Heap journey, we'll give you tips you can use immediately to organize your data and definitions, to set up all your Heap users for success, and to get the insights you need.
Hey,I’m building a path analysis:Raw Pageviews Only From Session, filtered for the homepage. The result is missing some of the page URL paths instead showing just “/”, see pic. This issue remains when changing to From View - Home and some other changes I’ve tried except when changing to Raw Pageviews & Defined Events. What’s going on?Thanks,Uri
I have a custom event with custom event properties. Now I want to create a query where I want to find activity of a group of users who performed the custom event with a particular custom event property value.Heap does not let me select a custom event property value while creating queries or segments.
I’m making a dashboard for an A/B with a few reports comparing the two tests.1. Even though I used the same ordering in the definition of the report the colors seemed to default by some other way. This is an issue as each test should be the same color across the reports for clarity. How can this be achieved?2. The names for each line in the legend are really long and cumbersome. Is there a way to edit them? Say “Test A” and “Test B”..Thanks!
It should be possible to specify the default filters applied to a dashboard without the use of query string parameters. For example, imagine I have 10 reports on a dashboard and each report, when they were originally created, shows the Past 7 days. If I have a dashboard that wants to use all 10 reports and have a default view of Past 30 days, i only have 2 choices:Update each of the 10 reports to be a default 30 day window. Tell everyone to make sure they apply the date filter on the dashboard every time they view it, OR bookmark the query with the query string params that set the filters. #1 is not only painful, but also doesn’t work well when the reports by themselves could still be useful to default to 7 days but in a given dashboard we want a different default. #2 is just bad in general because it means no one can interactively use heap to find a dashboard and get a good default view.

Today it’s not possible to define an event based on both a custom event and a click with a filter. This is badly needed because many times we have growing event definitions that change over time. Usually it starts with us looking at a Click event with some filter based on an ID. Then as we decide to make this event more durable, we add a custom event for it. To avoid losing history on the event, we want to then grow the original event definition to be:Custom Event1 with Filter X, OR Click on #someID with FilterYYou cannot do this today and have to create one event for the first custom event, then another event for the second, then a third event that is a combo of both. This bloats the number of events we must have defined in our heap project.
When I create a standard report for unique PageViews of a particular URL, the result (74 views) is far from the unique URL clicks that are reported from Mail Chimp (118 total clicks), for the same time period.HEAP Report: Mail Chimp report: Any insight as to why this delta (46 clicks/views) is so big and what might cause the discrepancy? Thanks,Grant
Hey there!I’m looking to get a count of user Sessions where a specific Event was performed more than once. Can anyone help me set up this query and graph? The question I’m trying to answer is: How many users add more than one job (Event Add-job-success) in a single session. If I could get a list of users who fit this criteria that would be event better. Thanks!Matt
In a way, heap is designed for us to create as many events as possible to unleash the power of detailed and broad analytics at the same time. more so, some reports are made difficult or impossible unless you start with a predefined event. The unfortunate thing however is that you discover lots of events start to pollute views like the paths view and the top events in conversion funnels. This then works against the these views discourages you ironically from creating too many events. Many times we need extra events to slice and dice and View Data a certain way, and want those available for reports. However I don’t want those by default shown in things like the user session explorers in path views because it’s just extra noise.for example, we’ve got an event called “Any Click” that we define to add snapshots to capture certain properties such as the values of data attributes by defining this on a common event like this allows it to be available everywhere without risk of the event being
